Spring ’17 Summaries

Food

How is it possibly May already? Typing away, the sun is shining and the birds are singing! Spring is most definitely here and that can only mean that Summer is just around the corner and with it event and wedding season is upon us. Although we’ve already had quite a few events and a wedding, summer is the traditional time to say ‘I Do’, however our season starts mid-April and continues through to September. Busy (but fun) times ahead! Intermingled with some corporate events (one tomorrow actually) and a few big birthday’s and special occasions this year looks set to be a big one.

Before we have all these though, let us recap a little over the past 3 months. So what have we been up to…well you would think that these months are the quietest; not exactly! Although not literally, we have been making hay whilst the sun shines, in other words prepping for the many events and weddings that the year holds. We have been busy with tastings galore, looking at our menus and re-jigging them, coming up with some exciting new menus and ideas and organising ourselves and our staff ready for when it’s all systems go.

We also have some exciting plans for our premises and are hoping to create and install something quite special! You’re going to have to wait for a few more details, but let’s just say it’s going to good!

tumblr_ojczywCehY1tvtv19o1_500

Amongst all of the prep and admin, we’ve had a weddings and events galore! It’s never really quiet for us! One of our lovely weddings fell on Valentine’s Day – how romantic! Guests were treated to a sumptuous buffet full of goodies and brimming with food. “I just wanted to touch base and say thank you for helping our wedding day be amazing! The lamb was the hit of the day as were the burgers and chips and the puddings were also super yummy! I wish I could do it all again and sit and eat it all again! You and your staff were wonderful on the day and really helped with the smooth running of things.” Such fab feedback received too, which always makes us smile!

Weddings

It’s fair to say we have been busy little wedding planning bee’s at the start of this year. As with the food and events side, in the ‘quiet’ months, it’s great to get everything in order, planning, prepping and generally making sure you are being productive and finalising plans for your summer weddings. All this, mixed with meetings and some tastings keeps us busy, but we do love this part when all the plans start to take shape and the couples can really start to see their big day coming together. Absolutely love seeing that!

tumblr_onxoty5pfQ1tvtv19o1_500

In addition to all of the planning, we’ve also been asked to help style a few wedding inspiration shoots and organise a couple of our own. We sadly can’t give much away yet, but once we know when they are published, all shall be revealed. We also had a few previous shoots feature on Bridal Musings, Fine Art Wedding Boutique  You & Your Wedding Online and in Perfect Wedding Magazine and You & Your Wedding Magazine. The feeling you get seeing your work really is quite special; getting to be creative and working with some fellow amazing industry pro’s is just amazing and is something that we just love to do and help other suppliers do too. We don’t just plan, we also style and that seems to be quite a popular request currently; not only for fellow suppliers, but for couples who have the planning side nailed, but need some help with the creative side and bringing a vision to life. In this visual and social media driven world, couples are wanting to be more and more unique and décor and styling is one way to do so…mixing up linens, the way you fold a napkin or have a runner, installations and florals and various lighting effects. There are so many ways to inject personality and style and we totally love this part of weddings and events. Another biggy is on the day management, which we have a lot of this year. From doing over 500 weddings, we like to think we know a thing or two about the wedding day and if it means our couples can relax the whole day through, knowing we have everything sorted, then it works for us! We always aim to please!

We also received some exciting photos this week from the fab Melia Melia Photography from a wedding we planned and catered for last year at Wickham House. Seriously dreamy images and we are so excited! We can’t wait to share these with you all soon.

However with all this in mind, we have to get back to a final few plans and finish prepping! The smell wafting from the kitchen is H E A V E N L Y!

Until next time…Emma & Team GB. x

Delivering December & our 2017 Wedding Trend Predictions

Happy New Year you lovely lot! We hope you had a fantastic Christmas and New Year. 2017 has arrived and we are back at work and ready for all of the exciting events and weddings ahead of us. Our December was full of Christmas parties galore and lots of super fun events.

tumblr_oijf7gfcre1tvtv19o1_500

In amongst the canape and drinks parties, we had some dinners mixed in and some festive lunches too. Christmas parties are all about the fun and the festive treats, think mulled wine, Christmas cocktails and a few hundred or so mince pies to boot! Turkey, trimmings, beef wellington and some seriously tasty sticky toffee pudding. We were lucky enough to be back at Windsor Guildhall for a Christmas Dinner and it really was a beautiful setting. We also got to provide some cute Christmas canapes for the lovely ladies at B.loved for their festive mingle.

tumblr_oihhteenyr1tvtv19o1_500

We were also invited to a few Christmas parties and gatherings ourselves where we got to catch up with fellow wedding industry pros and celebrate the year with some festive cheer. One of the highlights included a scrummy afternoon tea at The Bingham – such a beautiful hotel in Richmond, with a riverside setting that is ideal for weddings.

December certainly flew past and we can’t believe it’s another year and January already! As event and wedding professionals, people always ask us what we think will be popular in the forthcoming year…well here is our top 5 predictions for weddings and catering.

tumblr_ojb4k9y7lj1tvtv19o1_500

  1. Greenery – Pantone’s colour of the year is Greenery – quite a vibrant bold green which is quite the contrast to last year’s pastel hues. Whether used as a theming throughout your wedding or event, we think foliage will be used in abundance and in a loose, wild and natural way.
  2. Tropical – The tropical trend was popular last year, but mixed with the Greenery, we think this will really take off. Long reign the pinks, oranges, flamingos and pineapples!
  3. Industrial Luxe – Think copper, marble and warehouses with metal, stone and metallic elements, mixed with geodes and geometric contemporary designs and décor.
  4. Foodie Heaven – couples want to go BIG on food and splurge a little. Food after all is a big part of the day! Choosing their favourite food and going all out, matching wines and drinks too. P.S – keep any eye out for completely raw, vegan and gluten free menus too!
  5. Food stations and informal catering will be key – as will drinks stations. We have no doubt that artisan gins and craft beers will be big as will botanical drinks.

Are you getting married in 2017? Will any of the above be featuring? We would love to know and find out more about your plans. We have a busy January ahead – focusing on some upcoming weddings and events and finalising plans, also prepping for a Valentine’s wedding too – how romantic!

Until next time…Emma. x

November Noted

Festivities have well and truly begun and party season is upon us. November has kicked off the season in style and we have had some seriously fun filled weeks and we are now fully in the Christmas spirit. Largely because we have spent the weekend surrounded by Christmas spruces and decorations galore at the Country Homes & Interiors Christmas Show, but more about that later…

Food and Events

November has bought a wonderful mix of lunches, dinners, weddings, Christmas parties and a big country show, all completed by a super exciting award! We are absolutely thrilled and delighted to have been voted the English Wedding Awards South East Caterer! How fabulous! This has made our month and year, so thank you very much. We have some lovely events this month. November has certainly seen the festivities begin and we’ve had a few seasonal gatherings – from brunches, to lunches, buffets, canapes and cocktails and some elegant dinners. We get to incorporate some festive and seasonal produce and our cinnamon and mulled wine poached pears are proving popular as is our Venison main. Towards the end of the month saw a couple of weddings at Micklefield Hall. The barn lends itself beautiful to Autumnal and Winter weddings and we had rich reds and some elegant navy and white tones used as the décor. Berries were still popular as ever and our winterberry mess went down an absolute treat! We took the mid of the month to finish off some tastings for events early next year and also start to look ahead to December where party season will truly have its hold on us.

tumblr_oh75d35dxm1tvtv19o1_500

tumblr_oh75esuzkj1tvtv19o1_500

We also released our full raw, vegan and gluten free menus for wedding guests. We are the first caterer to do so and can’t wait to get creating some raw magic in the new year for our couples and their guests.

gb051016-012

Finishing off the month we catered for 3 days and thousands of visitors to the Country Homes & Interiors Christmas show at Stonor Park. Visitors were treated to seasonal and Christmas coffee’s and hot chocolates, festive sweet treats and savoury snacks such as our local pies, which were raved about by the end of the weekend! We absolutely loved being there and being part of the show, enjoying getting into the Christmas spirit. It’s fair to say we could have spent a small fortune on some of the wonderful gifts on offer – our office may be featuring some of the decorations on show.

Weddings

Following on from last month and quote gathering, November saw a little more and finalising some suppliers for next years’ weddings. It’s so good when everything falls into place and means that our couples can relax and enjoy the festive season, assured that all is booked and the fun of the details and styling lies ahead.

As members, we attended an NAWP event too, which are always good fun; getting to catch up with some familiar faces and meeting new. Networking events are always good to make some industry friends and catch up; all whilst trying some drinks and nibbles at a new venue which you may have not yet discovered. This was the case on this occasion. The event was held at the Museum of the order of St John and wow, it really is a stunning place. Hidden in Farringdon, we had no idea it was even there, but are so pleased we are now. It’s so beautiful and the spaces and history are quite magnificent. We also got to visit ‘Elevate your senses’ Wedding showcase at the Shangri La hotel at the Shard. Even on a slightly rainy day, the views were incredible and it was lovely to see some of our faves; Armorial, Emmy Shoes, Twobirds Bridesmaids and Abigail Bloom Cakes.

tumblr_ogjd3p6g551tvtv19o1_500

Last month we mentioned how delighted we were to have our Autumn Copper inspiration shoot featured on B.Loved and we are still loving the tones and autumn vibes the shoot brings. We’ve had a bumper month of features and we have been featured once again in Your Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wedding Magazine for a styling feature and earlier in the month we had our stunning Jane Austen Georgian Serenity shoot featured on top US blog Burnetts Boards – how amazing! You can see a little more here. It brings back fond memories of Spring, which was a warm welcome in these chillier times!

Wedding Accessories – Focus on Kelly Spence Hair Adornments

One for the women this week (although I will get to the men soon!) and what woman doesn’t love accessorising! No, it definitely can’t just be me…my friends do label me as a bit of a magpie, I have a penchant for all things shiny, sparkly and rose gold…and then there are the shoes, scarfs, bags etc. but I digress. Accessories are the key to adding a little bit of your own sparkle to your wedding day attire and add that extra something to your look – the perfect finishing touch!

This week, we have a focus on hair adornments and in particular those from our very talented and wonderful preferred supplier, Kelly Spence. Kelly, who is the 2015 winner of the Best Bridal Accessories Designer at The Wedding Industry Awards, has the most fabulous collection of hair accessories that you could ever wish for. Honestly I’m in heaven! The amount of work, attention to detail and passion that goes into every piece in quite something. Kelly has a range of products that will suit any bride, no matter your style, whether you are choosing a more boho approach, or a glam, Gatsby feel, you will feel elegant, classy and simply wonderful!

I talk you through a few of my favourite pieces, but make sure you take a look at Kelly’s website – you may be there for some while!

The Fern Headband is quite the statement piece. Stylised leaf of freshwater pearls and Swarovski crystals, set asymmetrically on a ribbon wrapped band. I love how it sits and looks and is perfect for a slightly more glam feel. If you have a Jenny Packham dress, I would choose this to really add to the glitzy vibe.

One of my favourite pieces is the Oak Cluster Half Circlet. A semi-soft circlet of golden oak leaves with ‘acorn’ clusters of freshwater pearls with organza ribbons at the back and loops for pinning in to the hair. An elegant piece, this looks beautiful and delicate and would work for many styles. Perhaps if you are having a woodland feel, or more rustic affair, this would be the piece for you as it highlights the natural oak and acorn elements.

Another piece that I love is the Harvest Comb. Sweeping golden leaves accented with budding tendrils of freshwater pearls set on a gold plated comb. Again, one perhaps more suited to a more boho style and one that I think would work well with a lace dress, similar to that of a Claire Pettibone style. I love the versatility of it and how you can wear it in the hair many ways – that’s the joy of a comb!

The name sells it for me (Jane Austen obsessive!) – The Darcy Comb is perfect for that vintage touch. A versatile comb with trailing fronds of freshwater pearls and Swarovski crystals set on a wire comb. Anything that combines pearls and crystals and has Darcy in the name is a winning combination.

The Delilah Vine is a delicate strand, jewelled with tiny freshwater pearls and/or Swarovski crystals tied with an organza ribbon. Can be worn in the hair with ribbon tied at the back or pinned in the loops at the ends. Can also be worn as a necklace/choker. How fabulous is that! I adore this piece and when it’s worn as in the image, it adds that extra touch to your look. I can see this paired with a loose, flowy tulle dress, a dreamy combination.

I think if I had to pick just one item it would be the Amandine Halo. A stunning vintage inspired halo with tri-strand front section of golden leaves and freshwater pearl blossom. It really does have the wow factor! Used with a veil, or on its own, it really is super stunning. I love it!

An increasingly popular choice for brides is the hair necklace. Ideal for a vintage Gatsby feel or for those boho loving brides. The aptly named Gin Fizz Headdress is a beautiful piece, which I’m quite in love with and sure you will be too. A 20s inspired Boho style headdress accented with Swarovski diamantes & freshwater pearls.

Kelly also creates the most fabulous collection of veils. I think of all, my favourite has to be the Charleston Veil. A 20s inspired, side gathered single tier veil in fine soft tulle with French lace edging around the front and 2 small clusters of freshwater pearls at the sides. Held in place with two tiny hair coloured snap clips at the sides. This would work beautifully well with a lace or sequin dress and has such an ethereal nature to it, but keeping that vintage feel, so as to not make it too boho. Adore!

And just because I love this style veil so much, how fab is one of Kelly’s real brides, who wears a bespoke pure silk Juliet style cap veil. Photography by Craig+Kate Photography. So so stunning!

Bespoke Pure silk Juliet cap style veil

I asked Kelly what she thought the top trends were and what her favourite item is:

“The nature child trend is still very strong in hair adornments at the moment with floral style circlets and halos very popular. Hair chains also tap into this bohemian trend and are perfect for the bride wanting a slightly more glamorous look. Veils are long and flowing in pure silk or soft draping tulle with the Juliet cap style still very on trend.

My favourite piece from our hair adornments at the moment has to be the new Prudence Halo. It is a full circle of vine-like tendrils, made with freshwater pearls and just the finest sprinkle of Swarovski crystals, enough to catch the light without looking too sparkly. It is actually a really versatile piece as it radiates out from a denser cluster which can be worn either at the back or the side and looks good with hair down or up. It is secured with a single comb meaning it is extremely light and is delicate enough to work with either lace or plain dresses.”

So…how gorgeous are all of these! You can really understand why Kelly was a very worthy winner. Such pretty pieces and so super stunning. I want them all! Hair accessories and adornments are such effective additions and can really make that wedding day look! Will you be having one? Or are you sticking to just a veil? Whatever your preference, it’s definitely worth taking a look at Kelly’s website (she also does jewellery too…seriously just as stunning – actual heaven) and believe me…you will be tempted!

The Look of Love – Wedding Hair and Make-Up

I think it’s fair to say that most of us (men included) want to look our best on our wedding day, or at least the best version of ourselves. This is where the wonders of make-up come in and who better to help you look your best than a professional make-up artist and hair stylist.

0f61ca075a03ca1fed00e43d4bab5360

Even those that don’t particularly like or wear make-up and barely do anything with their hair may choose their wedding day to actually make that step; sweeping on mascara, adding some lipstick and barrel rolling their hair. You may decide to do this yourself, but I always advise my brides (and bridesmaids) to invest in a professional. Not only does this take the stress away from yourself on the day of (and you can relax and feel pampered), but you have someone that knows how to make you look a million dollars and with the right products to do so (there are so many on the market now – personal faves are Mac, Nars and Laura Mercier). Plus, and this comes from experience from being on the stage when I was younger, lighting and photographs without make-up are not always the most flattering. Yes, there is Photoshop and a world of filters, but investing in good make-up is so worth it. I’m not talking heavy stage make-up (the thought already makes me cringe), but good products, applied professionally will make you look A-MAZING and I’m sure your photographer will love you even more!

daf0b7845d6a7ae22c5984d7be4e2ecf

A professional can come in the form of a make-up artist and a hair stylist or one who does both, like one of our amazing preferred suppliers – Antonia at Elle Au Naturel. She really is amazing! Look for recommendations on blogs or from venues, friends and other suppliers.  Remember to book a few months in advance. The good ones can get booked up quickly!

fc42f98e59296d54e533d15ac771e545

Once you’ve contacted a couple and have picked the one, always do a trial. Absolutely always! Take some cuttings or images of styles and looks you like. You may not look exactly like the photo but a professional will guide you through what will and won’t work and if you have any photos of your dress and perhaps cuttings of the material take these too. A trial is so valuable and will help eliminate any woes, stresses and problems that may occur on the day without one.

cb1e55c2c204d7194cde8d503233ac2d

Simple admin questions are usually worthwhile asking before the day in addition to a trial. Questions such as will it just be them or a team? Will they be doing just you the bride or all of the bridal party? What happens if they are unwell on the day – do they have a backup? How long will they need? How long will you need them for on the day and can they do that? Do they have any make-up they will be using to sell you – such as a lipstick, so you can reapply during the day if they aren’t there?  What would the costs be involved in all of these things? All valuable questions, so don’t be afraid to ask. Hair and Make-Up Wedmin tackled!

56f154e08b02758b06e764737136d712

For me I’m totally obsessed with make-up. From playing with my aunties when I was little through to working in Boots as a Saturday girl and being trained on No 7 – ta dah! (and ploughing all my hard earned money right back into the company, buying THE must have latest lip gloss or bronzer!) I have a keen interest in all things cosmetic and follow trends and styles, particularly within the wedding industry. Vintage is still a look I see a lot currently, in blogs and magazines but with real brides too. The classic red lip and cat eye sweeping eye liner work so well on many faces and skin tones. As does the ‘natural’ look – think pastels and barely there make-up. These two looks are by far my favourites and tend to be the most popular choices for a bridal look.

ec130a18f637172ed535b52629a8d499

If a classic look isn’t for you, then think about your style and go with what you feel most comfortable in on the day. Trends come and go and you would be wise to consider these as the photographic evidence could date, but ultimately be you and do what feels right. If you love a bright pink lip – go with that. Pillar box red nails – why not. A classic French mani doesn’t always have to be the choice! Do you love a smoky eye? Then maybe opt for that in the evening and have two looks!

312b62c3c5ca45ba92948fccbbeb6e71

As an end thought – don’t do anything too drastic with your look just before the big day! If you’re thinking of having a facial or cutting your hair, don’t do these in the days just before your wedding! Trust me, I think I speak on behalf of make-up artists and hair stylists when I say this! Now where is that coral lipstick, perfect on a sunny summer’s day!
