October Occurrences

So the clocks have gone back and the mornings are rather dark and dreary…but that doesn’t mean we are! Far from it! We are now on the countdown to party season and whilst wedding season seems to have calmed down, we’ve still had plenty to cater for this month and are in the full swing of planning ones for next year. Amongst some big birthdays and a corporate to end the month we are planning something super exciting for later this year and we can’t wait to reveal all.

Food and Events

October has bought with it the usual mix of weddings, social and corporates in amongst planning something fabulous for the next couple of months. But that’s for another time. The month started off with a fabulous 50th. We catered for a fancy but informal tipi based party at the client’s home. Bowls of yumminess were served followed by some sweet treats and bountiful amounts of cheese, all washed down with champagne, wine and some local beers. Sometimes a slightly more informal feel to the catering for a birthday works just as well. We love bowl food – guests get to mix and match with various dishes and it saves on the formal sitting down; you can mingle and chat whilst eating and no formal seating plan is needed!

The midst of the month saw weddings take place, one back at Micklefield Hall. We loved the menu for this one – wood pigeon followed by wild bass, topped off with salted caramel and peanut butter cheesecake – yes pleasseee!

Spread throughout the month we had corporate events, ending in one biggy at Windsor Guildhall for a lovely group of hoteliers. Impressing 70 top hoteliers takes some doing…but luckily we managed! Go Team GB!

This month we have mainly been in full planning mode for next year, gathering quotes and presenting them to our clients. This part of planning is always the most time consuming but it pays to get it right, particularly matching the right supplier to couple and ensuring that they have the vision and style that is designed and wanted for the wedding day. It’s actually quite fun and we love presenting all information to the couples and are then on hand for advice.

In between all of the quote gathering we were at Stoke Park’s wedding showcase mid-month where we got to meet some wonderful couples and thoroughly enjoyed chatting about their weddings and plans; it’s always such an exciting time!

This time of year brings various networking and industry events, some of which we have been lucky enough to attend recently and others are coming up over the next couple of months – hello Christmas party time!

We were also super thrilled to see one of our inspiration shoots that we planned and shot earlier in the month featured on B.Loved blog – you can see more here. So much Autumn loveliness!

With that in mind and the fact that we are (I shall say it very quietly) only a few weeks away from Christmas, we have lots to do ready for parties and events, so we best carry on…

Until next time…Emma. x

August Activities

Can you believe that summer is over (we’re hoping for an Indian Summer though as we have been loving this hot weather! Shame about the storms though!) and it’s September. August has continued in the same way as June and July started and it’s been another good and productive month for us. A mix of weddings and events, interspersed with tastings and meetings, we are settling into the swing of things and ready for what September is going to bring. That’s for next month however, so what has August provided…

Food and Events

August has given us two of our biggest events and two rather big weddings…which have been super fun! The first biggy was mid-way through with a glorious marquee wedding set in the most picturesque of gardens. It had a midsummers garden theme and the florals were so impressive! Guests were served from a rather salubrious gold bar –what else and sipping champagne and gin cocktails, it set the scene magnificently. A delicious feast of figs, beef fillet, a trio of puds and our delightful edible garden were served, along with a selection of cheese and a round of fish & chips to finish the evening. Our kind of meal!

The second biggy was just at the end and set in a quintessentially English setting, was just truly scrumptious in every way! This wedding had a more relaxed and informal feel in the way of our gourmet BBQ’s, which on such a beautifully sunny day was just super and guests loved it!

Amidst these two, we’ve had a few other smaller events and afternoon tea galore, which has proved popular this month. We do love afternoon tea and if you’re having a garden party, then this is the perfect fit!

After a rather busy July, our August is keeping up the momentum and we are still going strong through Wedding season. This month has mainly consisted of finalising plans for a beautiful intimate wedding in September and we’re really looking forward to this one. Set in a beautiful walled garden with the most glorious planting and florals, it’s going to be an absolute floral fantasia – that’s what we’re calling it anyway!

It’s going to be filled with some wonderful DIY detailing and an abundance of colour and a serious flower fest with some amazing food. We’re particularly looking forward to a bit of a vegan and health vibe which we can’t wait to try (perks of the job and all!).

Mid-month we were treated to a wedding breakfast at the seriously stunning Corinthia Hotel in London. Along with several other superstar planners, bloggers and editors we enjoyed a glass of fizz followed by a delicious breakfast and cake. We also got a tour of the spaces, restaurants and a penthouse. We’ve already decided that we are going to move in –it’s so us! Great Hire provided some fabulous ghost tables and chairs which looked amazing within the Ballroom setting and paired with some wonderful tableware from the amazing Duchess & Butler and some beautiful florals by By Appointment Only it created the perfect setting. It was lovely catching up with the gorgeous Abigail Bloom who provided the most amazing of cakes. We also got to chat about the super tasty cakes she provided for one of our couples in July – the chocolate cake was DIVINE!

The remainder of the month has been filled with venue visiting at the glorious Stoke Park (where we are a preferred supplier and will also be at their Wedding Showcase in October)  and Wisley Gardens and  gaining an abundance of quotes for a wedding next year and we can already tell it’s going to be a good one!

Until next time…Emma. x

Easter Eggstravagance!

Who can resist the temptation that these lovely oval chocolate goodies bring. The Easter Egg has long been enjoyed by many generations and continues to do so (I bet you can’t wait until Sunday!). However, we’ve noticed a bit of a change in the offering that the chocolatiers are bringing us at this time of year. Eggs are becoming fabulous works of art, with wild and wonderful flavours, leaving us with serious hunger in our eyes and belly. Check out the Easter Eggstravagance we have discovered in the shops.

UKAWP Mix&Mingle

We were absolutely thrilled when we were asked to provide the dessert table, along with GC Couture and their stunning cakes (simply WOW), for the London UKAWP social event, Mix and Mingle. This was held on Wednesday 30th September at Altitude 360, an amazing and modern venue with breathtaking views over the city and the river.

Kate Nielen Photography -176

We wanted to provide something truly stunning, not only to look at, but also to eat. Tasty treats that look good! Goose&Berry love desserts…who doesn’t! So we knew we had to make the dessert table pretty amazing. GC Couture were providing some absolutely beautiful and super tasty treats for all the guests and boy are they good!

Knowing the venue was modern and stylish and had a real city feel – have you seen those views! Wow! We wanted to create a dessert table that was modern, clean, smart and stylish, but with a little touch of rustic and that Goose&Berry touch. We set about designing and trying to incorporate a skyline – however we decided against a drawing one in the end, because how can you compete with the actual London skyline itself! So to showcase that, we wanted to use Perspex and clear materials, so we weren’t blocking the view and using it as a backdrop to the design and dessert table itself.

Kate Nielen Photography -173

Once the initial feel and design were sorted, we set about with the very tough (ahem) task of choosing what desserts to serve. Ok, so actually, there is a lot to choose from as there are so many yummies to pick. However, we knew we wanted to showcase some of our finest desserts, cater for all requirements and provide some seriously tasty treats. We wanted something fruity, something creamy, something chocolate and something an extra bit naughty, whilst also providing a slightly more health conscious option.

Kate Nielen Photography -193

The final choices were: Lemon Posset, Chocolate Trifle, Blackberry Crème Brulee, Tiramisu Pots and our new fave – Peanut Butter Mousse and Salted Caramel. (I could consume about 20 in a row – they are THAT good!).

Once all decided and set, off we went preparing and awaiting the day itself, feeling super excited for this wonderful event!

The day arrived and we set off for London. Arriving at Altitude (luckily we had a lift, not sure we could cope with all those stairs!) we started prepping and setting up the dessert table, with the stunning views surrounding us. It really is a truly amazing space and venue.

Guests arrived from 6.30 to join in the fun and merriment of the UKAWP mix and mingle. A fab evening full of all the wedding industries finest and a fabulous opportunity for people to meet, network, but above all, let their hair down after a wonderful (and hectic) wedding season and have some fun! The evening had some fantastic suppliers showing off their talents and skills. GC Couture were truly fabulous. The mint choc chip cake was divide and certainly my favourite. Absolute yums! Beautiful cakes and beyond tasty. Liz at Blue Sky Flowers provided the flowers for the dessert table as well as the venue. Thank you Liz! Fabulous as always! Mark from Hang The Moon (always a pleasure to see) was producing a video of the eve – we can’t wait to see! And the lovely Kate Nielen captured the evening beautifully. We can’t wait to show you more images! Along with some other amazing suppliers – who you can read all about here. This wonderful evening was organized by the fantastic planners – UKAWP members Stylish Events, Louise Perry Weddings, Steven Pellier Weddings and Just Bespoke. A special thanks goes to them for all of their hard work – we had a great time! We would also like to thank Catering Linen Hire for their linen, a stunning goose grey which worked so well with the berry colours.

The deserts went down a treat and it was so good meeting everyone there and being able to see the smile on their faces as they sampled our goodies. Such a pleasure! We absolutely loved being there and being part of the fun. An amazing evening and we’re sure everyone enjoyed it as much as we did!

Edible Gifts & Favours!

Edible Gifts and Favours – Guests are in for a treat!

We have already predicted big things for edible gifts and favours for this year. Sugared almonds and bags of sweeties are out and a whole lot of yumminess is in. We talk you through what you may see over the next few months and may even like to use yourself. What is not to love about these! Whether taken home or enjoyed later in the evening, everyone will love what’s waiting for them as a token of your appreciation. With the increase in DIY and crafty weddings we have seen in recent times, alongside this we have seen a more relaxed and homely feel to weddings and more couples creating items themselves. Items such as decorations, invites and favours. Homemade favours are a big thing and a great way of saving some pennies and spending elsewhere, these can range from key rings, plant pots, seeds packaged up, soaps and toiletries to chutneys, jams and cupcakes. Favours don’t have to be reserved for just weddings either. If you’re hosting a party or supper, why not treat your guests to a delicious little something. If you’re not already feeling hungry, you may be after you have seen what’s in store…

These gooey little bites of heaven are reminiscent of childhoods, sitting round an open fire and hot chocolate. Evoking fond memories of happy times, marshmallows have gained status and been brought into adulthood with sumptuous and fun flavours, beautiful presentations and have increased in size too. Macaroons and Meringues have been popular over recent times and will long continue to do so, but another sugary M has been brought to life and not only are they a great gift, you can have a go at making them yourself. Ideal if you love to bake (and you can keep a sneaky few for yourself too!) We love a cocktail or alcoholic flavoured marshmallow here at Goose & Berry, you could try a Pimms one, maybe a Baileys, how about a Chambord and Champagne flavoured one? You could even go exotic. Pineapple, passion fruit and mango, coconut and rum? Or maybe salted caramel, a personal favourite. The best way is to experiment and it’s a great excuse to sample some of these tasty beauties. If you have a particular dessert or signature cocktail at your wedding or party, perhaps you could flavour the marshmallow to match.

Hot Chocolate

There is no better accompaniment to Marshmallows, than Hot Chocolate. Now it’s not served then and there at the table (although there is nothing stopping you serving this if you so wish!), but in the cute way of a little jar, bag or tube, that looks totally adorable. All your guests will have to do is take it home and add hot water – oh and marshmallows too of course! These little hot chocolate kits are a great idea and work so well to give to adults and children alike. You can personalise them with labels and coloured ribbon, so as to match any theme you may have and serve them at individual place settings. Or you could keep them all together and display them on a rustic crate or table and have people take them as they enter, or leave.

Chocolate Lolli-props

We have all seen the props used in photo booths and for selfies at weddings and parties, but these genius little wonders are an all round amazing idea. Why not have edible props, shaped like giant mouths and moustaches, which can be used for photos and then eaten. Moulds can be bought from many craft shops and all you have to do is simply melt the chocolate, fill the mould, place a stick in and let cool. Clever! Different colours and candy can be used and can be found at most cake shops.

Cake Pops

A fun way of incorporating the tradition of cake at a wedding and party may be to have a cake pops and having them as favours. These can be displayed in a fun way, such as maybe placing them on sticks and having a ‘garden’ of cake pops and macaroons and marshmallows or beautifully presented and wrapped ready for your guests at their place.

 Personalised Sweeties

If you have a sweet tooth or a favourite type of sweet, then these could be right up your street…and hopefully your guests will love them too! JellyBelly Jelly Beans, M&M’s and Love Hearts can all be personalised with a message or initials, date or logo or even a photo that you have used on your invites and stationary. Such a great and simple way of adding a bit of fun to the proceedings and a little keep sake for your guests (although I can’t imagine they will last long and if they are anything like a few people we know, they won’t even it make it to the starter! Think of them as an amuse bouche!)

Mini Pies

Whether you choose savoury or sweet, why not try baking (or buying) some mini pies for your guests. Use your favourite filling and package in a cardboard box with some twine, ribbon and a label. These could be a winner for those late night munchies and may well be a savoir on the journey home or a midnight snack in the hotel room.

Not just for cinema or movies it seems, popcorn is ‘popping’ up at weddings more and more. Old fashioned popcorn machines, along with candyfloss machines are popular, especially at fair and festival themed weddings. So why not incorporate this in the form of favours. Place in a bag or tube, guests can snack on this on the day or why not place un-popped corn in some pretty packaging and attach some basic instructions for guests that they can make their own popcorn at home. Different flavour sugars could be added also, or just the basic popcorn as it is.

Peanut Butter and Honey

Not a new combination to replace peanut butter and jam, but two new ways of giving out some sweet little homemade pots of tasty treats. Homemade jams and chutneys are still very popular, but why not be a little different and pot up some peanut butter or honey. These could be made or shop bought and can be personalised using different materials, colours and labels.

Toffee / Caramels / Toffee Apple

Perhaps you have an Autumn wedding or maybe you just have a ridiculously sweet tooth. Instead of just a bag of sweeties, toffee or caramels or even Toffee Apples may be the choice for you. You could certainly have a lot of fun making these…and then eating them and I’m sure your guests would too. You may like to package the toffee’s and caramels in an old fashioned sweet bag or wrap a toffee apple in cellophane and tie with a pretty ribbon or twine and label up.

Infused Olive Oils

This may be one that you hadn’t really thought of, but we think that infused olive oils are a great favour or gift. You may have a favourite holiday destination that could be the perfect reasoning behind these little gems. Maybe you could even purchase them on said holiday. A sophisticated and indulgent favour that would work well with an elegant event or maybe you are foodies and your wedding and party is very food orientated, these would be the perfect favour. You could even pair them up with Balsamic Vinegar. With different infusions such as basil, garlic, lemon and truffle (soo good) you could have a different one for each table – maybe even theme or name your tables around them!

If you are anything like us and you adore tea, then this could be the obvious choice. Do you have a favourite type of tea or perhaps you might like to make your own blend? There are a few places that can do this for you and we have no doubt you will love the whole experience…and probably buy enough tea to last a lifetime! You could have loose tea or tea bags and personalise them up with your own unique packaging and labelling. You may like to place these in a vintage tea cup or if you are having afternoon tea served as your wedding breakfast or an afternoon tea/ garden party theme, then why not serve your blended tea and have the tea as favours too. Quite in love with this!

With juicing being the new ‘it’ thing to do and if you’re a health conscious couple, you may like to try giving small bottles of fresh juice as favours. This may take some time and they would need to be fresh, but these may a lovely idea for a smaller gathering or supper. Maybe attach a recipe for one or two juices so as your guests can give it go for themselves.

DIY cocktail kits and recipe

Guests love something to take home with them and remind them of their day. If you have had a signature cocktail at your wedding or party, you might like to give guests a small bottle of spirit alongside a recipe for them to take home and make themselves. Such a simple, yet effective idea and one that the adults will love. For any children, why not give them a mini bottle of juice with a mocktail recipe.

The Hangover Kit

A possible lifesaver for some of your guests is the Hangover Kit – as simple as a bottle of water and labelled with ‘Hangover Kit’. You could make it personalised and bottle and label up yourself or you could keep to branded water and add a tag. It really is that simple!
